India Strikes Back At China For 'Inventing' Names In Arunachal Pradesh

India- China Battle: Each India and China have strengthened the area with navy buildup.

New Delhi:

India hit out at China for giving “invented” names to a number of locations in Arunachal Pradesh as Beijing appears to claim sovereignty over the territory.

A number of stretches of the prolonged frontier are disputed and relations have soured dramatically since 20 Indian troopers died in a brawl in June 2020 on one part between Ladakh and Tibet.

Since then, either side have strengthened the area with hundreds of additional troopers and navy {hardware} as a number of rounds of talks have didn’t de-escalate tensions.

This week the Chinese language Ministry of Civil Affairs mentioned it had “standardised” the names of 15 locations in Zangnan (“South Tibet”) — Beijing’s title for the area India calls Arunachal Pradesh — and gave all of them formal Chinese language names.

The renaming of residential areas, rivers and mountains adopted an analogous transfer in 2017 involving six different places in the identical space.

“Arunachal Pradesh has all the time been, and can all the time be an integral a part of India,” India’s overseas ministry mentioned on Thursday.

“Assigning invented names to locations in Arunachal Pradesh doesn’t alter this truth,” spokesman Arindam Bagchi mentioned in an announcement.

Overseas ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian mentioned “Southern Tibet is in China’s Tibet Autonomous Area, and has traditionally been Chinese language territory,” including the renaming got here inside “the scope of China’s sovereignty”.

Tibet has alternated over the centuries between independence and management by China, which says it “peacefully liberated” the rugged plateau in 1951. It fiercely defends and militarises the Tibetan border and brushes apart any debate about Chinese language historic possession of the area.

India in the meantime sees China’s new Land Borders Regulation, authorized in October and set to come back into power on January 1, as a hardening of Beijing’s place.

The regulation calls China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity “sacred and inviolable” and allows Beijing to “take measures to safeguard territorial integrity and land boundaries and guard in opposition to and fight any act that undermines territorial sovereignty and land boundaries.”

India mentioned in October that it anticipated that “China will keep away from enterprise motion beneath the pretext of this regulation which may unilaterally alter the scenario within the India-China border areas”.
