Mumbai:

The Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) on Friday arrested a traveller with 4.98 kg of heroin value Rs 35 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Worldwide Airport in Mumbai, an official stated.

The DRI had obtained details about a passenger making an attempt to smuggle a drug consignment into the nation, following which officers elevated surveillance on the airport, the official stated.

A person touring from Nairobi (Kenya) to Mumbai was intercepted on suspicion when he crossed the inexperienced channel, he stated.

On looking his baggage, officers recovered 4.98 kg of off-white color powder in a trolley bag and on testing, presence of heroin was discovered, the official stated.

The contraband was stored in a black polythene bag hid underneath a false cavity created within the trolley bag, on account of which it was tough to detect the drug, he stated.

Additional investigation within the case is underway to unearth and neutralise the worldwide drug smuggling syndicate, the official stated.
